Kishwaukee Community Hospital is centrally located between the communities of DeKalb and Sycamore about 70 minutes west of downtown Chicago and O’Hare International Airport in the economically vibrant region of Northern Illinois. At the western edge of the Chicago metropolitan area, the quality of life here blends the rural benefits of friendliness, clean air and little traffic congestion with city attributes of good jobs, schools, housing and recreation. The DeKalb area offers all the benefits of a small town community with the high growth cities of Aurora and Naperville only 30 minutes away. Train service into Chicago is a short 15-minute drive from DeKalb in nearby Elburn.

DeKalb is home to Northern Illinois University (NIU), the second largest university in the state. As a college town, DeKalb boasts great sporting events and a beautiful campus. NIU, along with major corporations including Nestle, Good Year Tire, Panduit, Target, 3M, IDEAL Industries, and the KishHealth System, provide a strong base of well-paying jobs that contribute to the area’s strong and stable economy. Many professional development organizations exist in the area including Young Professions of Sycamore, DeKalb Leadership Academy, Kishwaukee Women’s Network and active chambers in both DeKalb and Sycamore.

Sycamore, along with DeKalb, has a growing retail market, attractive new subdivisions and established neighborhoods of homes, condos, townhomes and apartments. Leisure time activities range from the arts, to historic tourism, to active and passive recreation.

Nearby there are four golf courses, including a private country club, a swimming pool complex with water slides and children’s pool, an indoor sports facility for soccer, softball and basketball; large parks; the Kishwaukee River; and a state park with fishing lake. Sporting events and nationally recognized entertainers frequently perform at the 10,000 seat NIU Convocation Center. Many familiar shopping chains have locations in the DeKalb and Sycamore area, along with numerous unique shopping boutiques.
