Physical Therapist Earns New Cancer Exercise Certification
March 5, 2009 

Melissa Stevens, PT, DPT, ATC CSCS of Unlimited Performance Rehabilitation and Sports Medicine in Sycamore has received her certificate as a Certified Cancer Exercise Specialist. She has presented several times in the past few months in the community to the Karen Klein Breast Cancer Survivors Group and as part of an ongoing cancer series through the Kishwaukee Cancer Care Center in DeKalb about the benefits of exercise for the cancer patient.

Stevens received her bachelor’s degree in Athletic Training from Gustavus Adolphus College in Saint Peter, Minnesota, and her master’s degree in Exercise Physiology from Northern Illinois University. She received an additional master’s and doctorate degree in Physical Therapy from Washington University in St. Louis. She specializes in sports medicine, orthopedic injuries and aquatic therapy. Stevens is also involved in personal training, aquatic arthritis classes and community wellness programs. In her spare time she enjoys running, boating and skiing.
